Anwar completes laparoscopic procedure, remains under medical supervision

Anwar Ibrahim has filed a defamation lawsuit against Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, according to an announcement made by Anwar's lawyer, Datuk Sankara Nair. The legal proceedings stem from allegations that Tuan Ibrahim made defamatory statements during a political speech in Pahang on or around June 14, 2026. These statements, which Sankara claims are false and harmful to his client, were reportedly made during the speech in the presence of the public, media, and other witnesses.

The lawsuit also encompasses the dissemination and republication of these alleged defamatory remarks via video recordings, social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, and Tuan Ibrahim's own Facebook account. Sankara stated that Anwar is seeking compensation for slander and libel, including general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, as well as an injunction to prevent further dissemination of the defamatory content.

The Prime Minister's legal team is also requesting the removal of the publications from the defendant's possession and control, along with any associated interest, costs, and additional relief deemed appropriate by the court. Notably, Anwar had previously sent a letter of demand to Tuan Ibrahim on July 30, urging him to withdraw the statements, apologize publicly, and refrain from repeating the allegations, all while compensating him for damages and legal fees.

Tuan Ibrahim has been given 48 hours to respond to the lawsuit; if no reply is received, Anwar's legal team plans to proceed with the proceedings immediately.
