100 dead in Assam floods as several districts remain under water

Assam is grappling with a devastating flood situation that has claimed the lives of 100 individuals, as reported by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin on Sunday. The fatalities are distributed across various districts, with Sivasagar witnessing the highest number of deaths at 49, followed by Cachar with 22 casualties.

Other districts reporting fatalities include Karimganj (9 deaths) and Golaghat (8 deaths), along with others like Dhemaji, Nagaon, Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Karbi Anglong.

Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the affected regions, with district administrations and revenue circles closely monitoring water levels and providing aid to those impacted by the inundation. The central and Assam governments are extending their support for relief, rehabilitation, and medical assistance, ensuring essential services reach the affected population.

Additionally, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced financial aid of Rs 5 crore from the state government to aid in the relief and rehabilitation efforts in Assam.

The flood impact has been particularly severe in Jorhat district, where around 1.66 lakh people have been affected across 304 villages, resulting in nine reported fatalities. Beyond human lives, agriculture and livestock have also suffered significant losses due to the floods. Authorities remain vigilant and continue to monitor the situation, ensuring that rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts progress smoothly across the affected districts.
