'Screening results not shared with us': Air India on pilot dope test reports after Phuket-Delhi flight turbulence

Air India has expressed its frustration after failing to receive the results of a drug screening test conducted on the pilots of a turbulent Phuket-Delhi flight. The airline stated that it had conducted the post-flight test in accordance with protocols but did not receive the results. An Air India spokesperson clarified, "We are aware that a post-flight screening test was conducted on the pilots in accordance with applicable protocols.

However, the results of the test have not been shared with Air India, and we are therefore not in a position to comment on any findings." The airline reiterated its commitment to regular drug testing for crew members as required by civil aviation regulations and cooperation with relevant authorities. Captain CS Randhawa, president of the Federation of Indian Pilots, confirmed that the pilot had undergone a psychoactive substance test after landing but that the result had not yet been confirmed.

The pilot had tested positive for substances after the August 4 incident, which involved severe turbulence during the flight. Randhawa urged against drawing conclusions before the test report was available. The flight, AI 2379, carried 137 passengers and eight crew members and experienced a brief change in altitude due to turbulence, resulting in minor injuries for some passengers and crew members.

The airline confirmed the incident, stating there were no serious injuries, and the event is being investigated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
