NPP government supported comedians more than NDC – Lekzy DeComic

Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic asserts that the previous NPP government was more supportive of comedians compared to the current administration. During a recent showbiz roundtable, Lekzy revealed that when the NPP was in power, they took notice of the entertainment industry's trivialization of comedy. He shared that after highlighting this concern to a government executive, the GTA boss, Akwasi Agyemang, became involved in supporting comedians.

This resulted in comedians receiving assistance for shows, whether through in-kind support or other forms of aid.

Lekzy further claimed that under the previous government, some comedians had the opportunity to participate in the Ghana Week celebration in Washington, DC. However, he noted that the current administration seems to disregard comedians, with no efforts made to assist him recently. He cited an instance where he invited South African comedians to collaborate on his show, and when he reached out to Blackstar Experience, they mentioned a potential collaboration with the South African government but did not follow through on their promise.

Similarly, Lekzy reported that attempts to contact Mr. Rex Omar yielded no results. He emphasized his disappointment with the current government's lack of support for the creative sector, particularly given its high number of appointees in creative leadership roles.
