Armwrestling: Golden Arms set for World Armwrestling Championship in New Delhi

The Ghanaian national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, is set to compete in the World Armwrestling Championship, which will take place from October 26 to November 7, 2026, in New Delhi, India. The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) is making preparations for this significant international event. The championship, organized by the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), is expected to attract around 1,500 top armwrestlers globally, offering the Golden Arms a chance to challenge some of the strongest and most technically skilled players from around the world.

The team will consist of nine pullers, including world champion Grace Minta, world championship medallists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, and African champion Daniel Acquah. These athletes bring a mix of world-class experience, continental success, and emerging talent, aiming to showcase Ghana's prowess on the international stage.

In preparation for the New Delhi championship, the Golden Arms will engage in a national camping program, focusing on physical conditioning, strength development, technical and tactical work, recovery, discipline, and mental preparation. The camp, led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne, will enable the technical team to assess the athletes and refine the final squad for various weight categories.

Particular emphasis will be placed on meeting the standards required for international competition. The GAF's president, Charles Osei Asibey, reiterates the federation's dedication to providing Ghanaian athletes with frequent opportunities to compete at the highest level. This World Championship is part of the federation's strategy to develop elite athletes capable of winning medals at both continental and global competitions.

The New Delhi event will serve as both a medal opportunity and a critical test of Ghana's progress in armwrestling. Beyond the goal of securing podium finishes, the participation will expose the Golden Arms to diverse techniques, styles, and levels of competition, offering valuable experience for the athletes and the technical team.

The GAF is seeking support from corporate organizations and state institutions for travel arrangements. As preparations intensify, the team's primary objective at the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship is to perform well, aim for medals, and further solidify Ghana's reputation as a formidable force in world armwrestling.
