NDLEA alerts parents after uncovering drugs in cookies, gummies

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned parents to be vigilant about their children's consumption of cookies and gummies, due to the possibility of these snacks containing illicit substances. Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, shared images of seized packages revealing the presence of cannabis-infused products disguised as everyday snacks.

The images displayed colorful pouches of "Cookies Delta 8 Gummies" in flavors like Hawaiian Rain Pineapple Guava and Thai Mango, labeled as vegan and hemp-derived. Some of the seized items were part of a major interception at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, where two 40-foot containers of cannabis-infused products were seized.

The estimated street value of the seized items was around ₦373.8 million. The products, originating from the United States, were packaged to resemble ordinary vegan snacks, posing a potential public health threat, especially to children, students, and young people.
