NDLEA alerts parents after uncovering drugs in cookies, gummies

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned parents to be vigilant about their children's consumption of cookies and gummies, as these seemingly harmless snacks may contain illicit substances. In a recent statement, NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the agency's officers intercepted two 40-foot containers at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.

The containers were filled with cannabis-infused products, including thousands of Delta-8 cannabis pre-roll cookies and packs of cannabis-infused gummies. The estimated street value of these items was approximately ₦373.8 million. The products, which originated from the United States, were cleverly packaged to resemble ordinary vegan snacks with enticing flavors.

NDLEA officials emphasized that the attractive packaging could particularly appeal to children, students, and young people, posing a significant public health threat due to the concentrated cannabis content.
