Lawyers want probe after puppy allegedly run over twice

Animal rights lawyers have called for a police investigation following an alleged incident where a pick-up truck allegedly ran over a puppy twice in a parking lot in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. Rajesh Nagarajan, a lawyer with Lawyers for Animal Rights, stated that a white Mitsubishi Triton first struck the puppy as it entered the parking bay, and then the vehicle reversed and ran over the animal a second time, causing its death.

Nagarajan emphasized that the case is more than just negligence or an accident, as the truck reversed and struck the same animal a second time. He has urged the authorities to investigate the matter under Sections 29(1)(a) and 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act, which deal with animal cruelty and causing unnecessary pain or suffering to animals.

Nagarajan also demanded that the police secure CCTV footage from the area before it is overwritten, locate the suspect, and obtain a veterinary forensic report to determine the cause of the puppy's death. The FMT is seeking comment from the police on this matter.
