Kritiklah DAP, tetapi bahaya guna label ‘musuh Islam’, kata Marzuki

Marzuki Mohamad has criticized the call by PAS President Hadi Awang to label DAP as an Islamic enemy, warning that it risks pushing the nation towards an unhealthy foundation. The former deputy prime minister under Muhyiddin Yassin asserts that the former alliance between Umno and PAS, which created a shared enemy, the DAP, was necessary to maintain the newly resuscitated pact and gain support from Malay voters.

While political criticism of DAP is justified, equating the party and its supporters with an Islamic enemy is a dangerous tactic that escalates tensions. This labeling also inadvertently categorizes nearly 75% of the non-Muslim population in the country as an Islamic enemy, he stated on Facebook. In his Facebook post, he pointed out that Hadi claimed DAP was steering Pakatan Harapan (PH) in continuing the colonial agenda to destroy Malay-Islam, sparking suspicions among the party to return to the local government seat and their vision of Malaysian Malaysia.

The remarks were backed by DAP leaders and Amanah Aiman Athirah Sabu, who challenged Hadi to bring DAP to court if he had evidence to support his allegations. Marzuki recalled that Umno and PAS, two of the largest Malay-Islam parties in the nation, were involved in a fierce Islamization race during the 1970s and 1980s. During this time, he noted, Hadi spoke of labeling Umno members as kafirs and portraying the struggle against the Barisan Nasional (BN) front-runner as jihad.

This ideological rivalry ended in the late 1990s when PAS formed a coalition with PKR and DAP, a secular party with a majority of non-Muslims, to challenge Umno and BN's dominance. Today, the former fierce rivals have reformed themselves as friendly rivals under the pan-Malay-Islam banner, referencing Umno and PAS.
