Kritiklah DAP, tetapi bahaya guna label ‘musuh Islam’, kata Marzuki

Marzuki Mohamad, a former aide to former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, has criticized the move by PAS President Hadi Awang to label DAP as an "Islamist enemy". Marzuki warned that this could lead Malaysia down a path of unhealthy foundations, as it creates a common enemy between Umno and PAS, which were once united. He acknowledged that political criticism of DAP is justified, but equating the party and its supporters with an "Islamist enemy" is a dangerous tactic that increases tensions.

This stance also unfairly categorizes nearly 75% of Malaysia's non-Muslim population as an "Islamist enemy". Marzuki made these remarks on Facebook, referencing the recent controversy where Hadi claimed DAP was leading Pakatan Harapan in continuing the colonialists' agenda to destroy the Malay-Islam. DAP leaders and Amanah Aiman Athirah Sabu, the chairperson of Amanah Women, have challenged Hadi to bring DAP to court if there is evidence to support his claims.

Marzuki reminded that Umno and PAS, the two largest Malay-Islam parties in the country, were involved in a fierce Islamization movement in the 1970s and 1980s. It was during this time that Hadi made controversial statements, labeling Umno members as "infidels" and portraying the fight against the Barisan Nasional as a "jihad". This ideological battle came to an end in the late 1990s when PAS formed a coalition with PKR and DAP, a secular party with a majority of non-Muslims, to challenge the dominance of Umno and BN.

Since then, both former bitter rivals have redefined themselves as allies under the banner of Malay-Islam unity.
