Iran’s Guards say won’t reopen Hormuz without US meeting all of Tehran’s conditions

Iran's Revolutionary Guards have stated they will not reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz unless the US meets Iran's conditions, which include compensation for war damages. Iran has been blocking the strait since the US and Israel attacked in late February, accusing ships of trying to bypass its preferred route. The collapse of a ceasefire due to continued attacks on the waterway led to the reopening of the strait being dependent on meeting other conditions and compensating for the June agreement's violations.

Iran's security chief outlined a list of demands, including an end to aggression against Iran and its allies, lifting of a US counterblockade of Iranian ports, and the release of frozen assets and compensation for wartime damages. Iran's security chief emphasized that the strait is now a theatre of war rather than just a waterway.

Repeated attacks have led to a significant drop in transit through Hormuz, with Iran targeting ships that skip its preferred route through Iranian waters.
