Happ and Amaya homer to help Boyd improve to 8-1 as the Cubs beat the Royals 10-2

Ian Happ and Miguel Amaya both homered, propelling the Chicago Cubs to a 10-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Alex Bregman's two RBI singles contributed to the Cubs' two wins in the series. Matthew Boyd (8-1) pitched seven innings of solid baseball, allowing only two runs and five hits. Happ extended the Cubs' lead to 7-2 in the sixth inning with his 20th home run.

Amaya added a three-run shot in the seventh, also off reliever Easton McGee. Chicago's first run came in the first inning via a sacrifice fly by Michael Conforto, scoring Michael Busch. Conforto extended the lead with an RBI single in the third, followed by Nico Hoerner's RBI single that scored Ian Happ, boosting the lead to 3-0.

Bregman added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI single, extending the Cubs' advantage to 4-0. Starling Marte's home run in the bottom of the fourth cut the deficit to 4-2. Bregman added another RBI single in the sixth, scoring on Happ's homer. Kansas City starter Randy Dobnak lasted five innings, giving up four runs and 10 hits, while the Cubs' Shota Imanaga (8-9, 3.60 ERA) will take the mound in the next game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
