Bazeshkian meets Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei after rare video release

President Masoud Bazeshkian convened a meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei following the release of a rare video featuring the latter. The dialogue centered on Iran's pressing economic and military quandaries. State media disclosed on Sunday that this encounter occurred at the outset of Bazeshkian's third tenure as President.

The conversation encompassed critical issues such as guaranteeing essential requirements for the populace, recent events in the ongoing conflict, and Iran's trajectory amidst prevailing conditions. It also delved into challenges concerning resource acquisition, budgetary management in Iranian rials (IRR) and foreign currencies, alongside Iran's economic ties with external entities. Discussions on military advancements and potential resolutions were also part of the discourse.

The meeting was precipitated by the unverified video of Khamenei released by Iranian authorities on Saturday evening, omitting a precise date. This revelation sparked inquiries regarding the leader's health status. Mojtaba had sustained injuries during the US-Israeli conflict against Iran, initiated in February 2026, which culminated in the assassination of his predecessor, Ali Khamenei, and several high-ranking officials.

Since the war's onset, Khamenei remained absent from public view, with limited appearances confined to written statements on state media, thereby amplifying conjectures about his well-being. Trusted sources within Iran disclosed that he was cautioned to abstain from public appearances under any circumstance, including attending his father's funeral, owing to apprehensions of being targeted.

Ali Khamenei presided over Iran for nearly four decades until his demise in a joint US-Israeli airstrike in Tehran on February 28. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump affirmed Khamenei's death on social media, branding him as one of the most malevolent individuals in history and remarking on his inability to elude US intelligence agencies.
