Aussie high jumper wins gold at under-20 world titles

Australian high jumper Izobelle Louison-Roe secured gold at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. At 19, Louison-Roe entered the competition as the leading under-20 jumper, having twice set a personal best of 1.95 metres. A jump of 1.92m was sufficient for gold, adding to the silver she had won in Lima during the 2024 championships.

Hungary's Lilianna Bátori took silver, while Spain's Aitana Alonso claimed bronze, both jumping 1.90 metres. Louison-Roe described the victory as one of the moments of her life, expressing that winning was an incredible feeling. The Australian 4x400m relay team also secured a silver, with Shari Hurdman, Xanthee Watts, Charlotte McAuliffe, and Alice Hill finishing second behind the United States.

However, Australia's men's 4x400m relay team narrowly missed a medal by four-hundredths of a second, while their women's 4x100m team placed fourth. Kieran Shepherd won the men's 1,500m with a personal best of 3:42.25, and Milla Roberts secured 14th place in the women's event after overcoming a mid-race fall. Elijah Wilson placed 13th in the men's discus final with a throw of 56.47m.
