Scottie Scheffler's professional golf career took a significant turn ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The 2026 PGA Tour season concluded with Scheffler securing the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings, boasting a substantial 4,123-point lead, more than 700 points ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick. Following that, Cameron Young secured the third position with 3,157 points.

Despite having 794 points separating him from the second place, Scheffler decided to skip the final two events, ensuring his lead remained too wide for any competitor to close. For finishing the regular season at the top, Scheffler receives a $10 million bonus, which is part of a $20 million pool evenly distributed among the top ten players. This bonus payment was set to arrive before he even teed up for the playoffs.

In terms of career earnings, Scheffler takes the third position on the all-time list with a total of $116,364,411. This accomplishment was achieved last year when he won The American Express, pushing him past the $100 million mark, joining the elite ranks of Woods and McIlroy. Although Scheffler's bonuses do not factor into official career earnings, his earnings remain third on the all-time list, just behind Woods and McIlroy.

McIlroy, the six-time major winner, has announced his participation in all three FedEx events this year, despite initially dismissing the two tournaments prior to the Tour Championship as futile. He aims to play 14 events in total, spread across five weeks, including the two DP World Tour events.
