Alleged Irish international crime boss extradited from UAE

Dubai authorities have transferred alleged Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan to Irish authorities, reports indicate. Kinahan, 49, was apprehended in the UAE in April and identified by the US as one of three leaders of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG), a transnational cartel involved in drug smuggling and money laundering. The United States had offered a $5 million reward for the trio's arrest in 2022.

Upon arrival in Ireland, Kinahan is anticipated to be transferred to the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, accompanied by a substantial security operation. He faces allegations of serious organized crime offenses. This is the second senior figure from the cartel to be extradited from Dubai, with Sean McGovern previously extradited and sentenced to 24 years in prison for directing organized crime and attempted murder.

The US government had already sanctioned Kinahan and other family members in 2022, designating them as leaders of a narcotics trafficking organization active in Ireland, the UK, and throughout Europe, engaging in money laundering, firearms trafficking, and murder.
