Washington Nationals Pick Up Win in First Game Back at Home

The Washington Nationals secured a 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in their first home game back after an eight-game road trip. Starting pitcher Cade Cavalli contributed significantly with 8 strikeouts and only 3 earned runs, along with 7 hits over 6 innings for his first win of the month. Relief pitchers Yovanny Cruz, Orlando Ribalta, and Clayton Beeter each pitched one inning, allowing no hits and delivering a combined 2 strikeouts to secure the win.

Daylen Lile ended a three-game hitless streak, going 2-for-4, including his three-run 400-foot home run in the opening inning, which gave the Nationals an early lead.

Cincinnati managed to narrow the gap when Yovanny Cruz hit a 422-foot solo home run in the second inning, but Cavalli responded by giving up consecutive home runs in the third inning, tying the game at 3. In the top of the fifth inning, the Reds attempted to mount a comeback, but a double play ended their threat. In the sixth inning, Cavalli walked the leadoff hitter before settling for a pair of strikeouts and a ground out.

The last challenge came in the seventh inning when the Nationals loaded the bases but forced a 6-4-3 double play, effectively halting the Reds' scoring attempts.

This win marks Washington's 57-61 record overall and includes three straight victories against the Reds this season, following a 23-4 blowout in their second-half opener. The Nationals will aim to wrap up the series with a win on Saturday, August 8th, with Andrew Alvarez set to start the game, scheduled to begin at 6:45 PM.
