Explain arrests of podcaster duo, Rayer urges IGP, Saifuddin

The Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer, has called upon the Home Minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and the Inspector-General of Police, Khalid Ismail, to provide clarification regarding the recent arrests of a podcaster duo. The pair, aged in their 30s and 60s, were detained two days ago in connection with a podcast they hosted. While the police claim the arrests were due to the duo discussing religious matters, Rayer argues that the real issue is the content of their podcast, which he deems to be political discourse.

He contends that such discussions should not be subjected to fear of repercussions and asserts that arrests do not align with the spirit of Reformasi. Rayer emphasizes that even controversial political opinions, though distasteful, cannot be considered a reason for criminal charges.

Earlier, police announced that the duo were questioned over a video clip where they debated secularism and liberalism. They are currently under investigation for sedition, inciting fear in the public, and offending religious sentiments. Rayer has also requested an update on a separate case involving controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, who has been reported for allegedly posting racist and provocative remarks on Facebook.

Additionally, he seeks information regarding the investigation into Jempol MP Shamsulkahar Deli, who is being probed for remarks that allegedly link the DAP to an image considered offensive to the Sultan of Selangor.
