WAANSA Ghana unveils 17 Technical Leads to drive fight against small arms

The West Africa Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA Ghana) has introduced 17 Technical Leads to enhance its efforts in combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country. The revamp aims to bolster advocacy, research, and community action while prioritizing impact and legitimacy. WAANSA Ghana Administrator and Project Coordinator, Mr. Francis Ameyibor, explained that the restructuring positions the organization as a modern, smart advocacy entity.

The Technical Leads will serve as focal points for various stakeholder groups, ensuring tailored messaging, partnerships, and programs. These leads will engage with chiefs and traditional councils, mobilize women traditional leaders, collaborate with faith-based institutions, coordinate with governance and security institutions, and work with youth groups, women and children's affairs, blacksmiths, media, political parties, and donors.

WAANSA Ghana emphasizes that the fight against small arms cannot be won in conference rooms alone; it must be fought in communities where norms are formed and enforced.
