UAE condemns alleged Iranian attack on ADNOC vessel in Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as an Iranian attack on a vessel belonging to its state oil company, ADNOC, as it traveled through the Strait of Hormuz. The attack is alleged to have taken place on Saturday, with the UAE Foreign Ministry calling it a "hostile Iranian attack." No details were provided regarding the specific ship, its cargo, or the extent of any damage. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway separating Oman and Iran, serves as a critical conduit for approximately a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade. Since the US-Israeli war on Iran began on February 28, shipping disruptions have occurred frequently, leading to increased freight rates and heightened security concerns.

The UAE's statement accused Tehran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) of committing acts of piracy by targeting commercial shipping and utilizing the waterway as a means of economic coercion. They urged Iran to cease the attacks and restore full, unconditional access to the strait. Iran's Guards have a history of threatening retaliation against vessels transiting the strait if they are associated with Tehran's opponents or if they do not adhere to Iranian directives.
