Troops foil terrorist logistics, recover N5.3m in Zamfara

Military forces in Zamfara State thwarted terrorist logistics operations, recovering over N5.3 million in cash and various equipment during separate engagements on Friday. The Joint Task Force North-West disclosed that troops, collaborating with Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, cleared an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.

Following the clearance, the troops encountered terrorists in Birnin Tsaba village, compelling them to retreat into the bush. In Shinkafi Local Government Area, intelligence led troops to engage terrorists, resulting in the seizure of a motorcycle, uniforms, a vest, and a hat. Additionally, near Maradun, a 35-year-old suspect, Lawali Dan Alo, was intercepted, and his bag yielded N5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.

The suspect was reportedly delivering funds for a terrorist leader. Both suspects are now under custody. The Theatre Command praised the troops' vigilance, courage, and prompt response, promising continued patrols and intelligence-led operations against terrorist networks. The public is urged to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
