Troops smash terrorist network in Zamfara, recover N5.3m cash, military gear

Operation Fansan Yamma troops have intensified their efforts against terrorist networks in Zamfara State. During their raids across various locations on Friday, they managed to disrupt the group's logistics, recover over N5.3 million in cash, and seize military-grade gear. Troops also neutralised a threat posed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Jabanda village in Zurmi Local Government Area.

The Joint Task Force North-West released a statement on Saturday, detailing their operations. Sector 2's troops received information about the IED and collaborated with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to locate and clear the device, ensuring it was safe for motorists. Later, they encountered and engaged suspected terrorists in Birnin Tsaba village, forcing them to retreat.

The search of the area yielded two motorcycles, a camouflage hat, a handheld radio, and other suspected terrorist items. In another operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area, Sector 2 troops, backed by Mobile Police personnel, pursued terrorists in Kwanar Jolof. After engaging the suspects with superior firepower, they fled. Subsequently, a search of the area revealed a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a vest, and a jungle hat.

The operation extended to the Maradun axis, where a 35-year-old man named Lawali Dan Alo was intercepted. Despite claiming the bag in his possession contained food, a search of the bag uncovered N5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone. Dan Alo and the arrested Garba were taken into custody for further investigation. The Theatre Command praised the troops for their vigilance and swift response during the operations and urged residents to continue providing information to help dismantle criminal and terrorist networks in the region.
