Scorching heat continues across nation; heavy rains forecast on eastern coast

South Korea is currently experiencing an intense heat wave, with extreme temperatures forecast to persist across the nation over the weekend, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). Daytime highs are expected to soar as high as 37 C, with Seoul metropolitan area and Daejeon witnessing temperatures reaching up to 36 C.

The heat wave has prompted the Korea Road Traffic Authority to temporarily reduce or halt driving tests, out of concern for the health of candidates and staff due to the heat-related risks.

Rainfall of up to 100 millimeters is predicted for the eastern coastal areas and mountainous regions of Gangwon Province, while scattered showers of up to 40 millimeters are expected across the capital region and central areas. As the rain falls, temperatures may temporarily decline, but humidity and heat are forecast to return once the downpour ceases.
