Red Sox Achieve Fastest Single-Season Turnaround in MLB History

On June 24, the Boston Red Sox were struggling with a 32-46 record, the worst in the American League. Despite manager Alex Cora's dismissal in April, it seemed more managerial changes were on the horizon. However, since a June 25 victory against the Colorado Rockies, the Red Sox have been on a remarkable winning streak. They currently boast the best record in the AL at 32-5 and are just half a game behind the New York Yankees for the Wild Card spot.

ESPN's Buster Olney noted on Aug. 8 that the Red Sox's 44-day turnaround from 14 games under .500 to 13 games over is the fastest in MLB history, based on research from Sarah Langs. The previous fastest turnaround occurred in 59 days by the 1914 Boston Braves. The Red Sox have become the first team to win 27 or more games in a 30-game span while starting the span 10 or more games below .500.

Their remarkable improvement is evident in various statistics; they were ranked 30th in runs scored and 29th in home runs before June 24, but now they are second in runs, seventh in home runs, and first in ERA since the start of their surge. This combination of strengths could prove pivotal if they advance to the postseason. The 1914 Braves, known as the Miracle Braves, also made a dramatic comeback and swept the Philadelphia A's in the World Series, suggesting a similar positive outcome for the Red Sox.
