German minister warns of ‘hybrid warfare’ after suspected drone attack

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned on Sunday of "hybrid warfare" attacks originating from abroad, following a suspected drone attack with explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, Dobrindt said Germany is a daily target of such attacks, which include espionage, sabotage, cyber operations, and covert activities aimed at destabilizing the nation.

While he did not specifically name any countries, foreign powers may be seeking to subdue Germany politically and socially by instilling fear. Following the incident, some German lawmakers suspected Russia, but the Russian embassy in Berlin denied the attack as a fabricated provocation. Dobrindt, a member of the conservative Christian Social Union, called the Leipzig event a hybrid attack scenario and emphasized that Germany is expanding its drone research in response to these threats.
