7 killed, 11 injured in Himachal bus accident; PM Modi expresses sorrow

Seven lives were tragically lost and eleven others sustained injuries when a private bus veered off the road and crashed near Chalunj Mor in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district at 7.15 am, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured in a post on X. The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, also conveyed his sorrow to the bereaved families and directed the district administration to facilitate necessary medical care for the injured.

Police officials stated that the accident occurred after the bus travelled five kilometers from Bairagarh towards Chamba. Postmortem examinations are being conducted on the deceased, while the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Heavy rainfall in the region has led to slippery roads, poor visibility, and damaged structures, prompting the Meteorological Centre Shimla to advise the public to refrain from unnecessary travel and stay away from vulnerable areas.
