Zelenskyy lands in Serbia with first ever visit

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy embarked on his first ever visit to Serbia on August 7, 2025. The visit aimed to discuss expanding economic ties, relations with the European Union, and security issues. During his stay, Zelenskyy planned to hold important negotiations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Djuro Macut.

Zelenskyy expressed his intention to use the trip as a way to send a message to Russia, as Serbia has traditionally been seen as an ally of Moscow. Despite this, Serbia has not imposed sanctions on Russia and maintains close energy ties with Moscow. In fact, Serbian President Vucic had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in May 2025. Additionally, Serbia has officially expressed its desire to join the European Union.
