Heavy rain drenched parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region on Friday, causing significant waterlogging, gridlock, and disruptions to vehicular movement during peak hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, predicting moderate rain at various locations and heavy rain in isolated areas, along with moderate thunderstorms and lightning. Respective stations reported rainfall ranging from 16.9 mm to 60.4 mm.

Waterlogged areas were particularly problematic near the Badarpur Border Metro Station, where rainwater inundated subway tunnels, making it difficult for commuters to navigate. Numerous low-lying roads became submerged, forcing vehicles to navigate cautiously to avoid flooding.

Traffic was severely impacted across major stretches, with long queues of vehicles stretching for multiple lanes on the Barapullah Flyover. This chokepoint saw cars, buses, auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers moving at a snail's pace due to heavy traffic and the rain-soaked road surface. Both directions of traffic remained gridlocked during the evening rush hour as rain slowed movement.

Authorities advised commuters to plan their travel accordingly and exercise caution when driving through waterlogged areas. Additionally, Ghaziabad experienced similar disruptions, with heavy rain causing traffic congestion on major roads as vehicles moved at slow speeds. Civic agencies are monitoring waterlogged locations, while traffic authorities urge commuters to avoid flooded stretches, drive cautiously, and adhere to traffic advisories before departing.
