Shaquille O'Neal Delivers Blunt Message to Caitlin Clark: 'Toughen Up'

WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark has faced a significant controversy regarding officiating since her debut. The situation escalated on June 24, when she was struck on the throat during a match against the Phoenix Mercury. Although no foul was called at the time, the WNBA subsequently reviewed the incident and suspended Phoenix's Alyssa Thomas for a single game.

Former NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, who is well-acquainted with the harsh realities of playing under scrutiny, took to social media to deliver a blunt message to Clark. He urged her to "toughen up" to rise to the challenges of being the league's prominent figure. O'Neal stated, "All the greats have to go through what we call rites of passage.

She’s a fabulous player, but we’re not giving you anything, ever. You have to earn it." He continued by saying, "So for her, she needs to toughen up, take those licks, and show them that, 'These licks don’t bother me.'" The three-time All-Star has already broken several records, including being the quickest to reach 1,000 points, 250 rebounds, and 250 assists in just 54 career games.

On July 17, she achieved a career-high scoring feat by netting 45 points against the Seattle Storm. O'Neal further encouraged Clark, saying, "Keep doing that, and the rites of passage will start to open up, and they will invite you in and give you the throne."
