Road accident sparks violence in Patna; vehicles set on fire, body used to block road

A violent incident erupted in Patna, Bihar on Friday, 7 August after a man died in a road accident near Zero Mile. In response to the tragedy, locals became enraged and took matters into their own hands, setting three police jeeps ablaze and blocking the road using the deceased man's body. Stone pelting was also reported during the aftermath of the accident.

The police confirmed that both the vehicle involved in the accident and a police vehicle were set on fire, according to PTI. While there are no confirmed reports of additional deaths or injuries, videos shared by ANI captured images of two vehicles burning and smoke billowing into the sky. Police deployment in the region was also documented by another video.

ASP Raj Kishor Singh provided further details, stating that the road was blocked with the deceased's body, leading to violent acts from the crowd. Police claimed they were working to restore order and maintain law and order in the area. Patna City SDM Satyam Sahay added that the individuals involved in the violence are being identified and the body has since been removed from the road, restoring traffic flow.
