Patrick Mahomes Could Miss All Chiefs' Preseason Games

The Kansas City Chiefs' preseason opener is approaching swiftly, and there is a strong likelihood star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will not participate in the team's three preseason games scheduled to take place next week. Mahomes recently underwent surgery in December to address a torn ACL and LCL he sustained during a Week 15 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in the previous season.

Although he is fully cleared to engage in training camp activities, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid indicated that Mahomes may not play in any of the preseason matches. Reid explained to ESPN, "There's a pretty good chance where I don't play him," adding, "The percentages are leading that way." Mahomes himself expressed his desire to participate in the preseason games but acknowledged that attaining optimal health for the regular season holds greater significance for the Chiefs.

He told ESPN, "I'm a competitor, so on game day, I'm going to want to be out there," but emphasized that coaches and medical staff will ultimately make the decision regarding his availability. Backup quarterback Justin Fields and rookie Garrett Nussmeier are expected to seize opportunities to showcase their abilities during the preseason, as Reid stated, "We've got new people behind [Mahomes] that need some work," indicating that the more repetitions they accumulate, the better equipped they will be.

Following their preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on August 15, the Chiefs will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks in the subsequent two preseason games before commencing their regular season campaign against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on September 14.
