Claude Code now lets sessions talk to each other on macOS

Anthropic has introduced a new feature to Claude Code that enables sessions running on macOS and Linux to communicate with each other. This cross-session messaging allows Claude sessions to share updates, ask questions, and coordinate work across different parts of the same project. Earlier this day, Anthropic announced the feature in Claude Code v2.1.224.

This feature is particularly beneficial for users running multiple sessions, as it allows Claude to warn one session if a change in another breaks their work, and to provide answers to questions one session is blocked on. Anthropic emphasizes that users don't need to worry about composing the message; they can simply include the content they want to convey, and Claude will handle writing the message.

However, it's important to note that cross-session messaging doesn't allow for approving permission requests or changing configurations. The /compact command will arrive as plain text, and if acting on the message requires a permission, the receiving session will prompt the user for approval.
