MEST donates to Mosque in memory of Murtala Mohammed

The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST) has recently contributed prayer and other items to the Tse Addo Central Mosque in Accra to honor the memory of their late Minister, Dr Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, on the first anniversary of his passing. The tragic death of Dr Mohammed in a helicopter crash in 2025 claimed the lives of eight individuals, including himself.

The donation, motivated by the desire to uphold the late minister's legacy of charity and Islamic devotion, consisted of 200 Qur'an copies, 50 prayer mats, 50 ablution containers, 30 school bags, 50 bottled water packs, and 10 boxes of biscuits. Yusif Sulemana, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, presented the items on behalf of the caretaker Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Amarh Kofi Buah, stating that the gesture marked the beginning of activities to commemorate the late minister's first anniversary and continue his charitable work.

Dr Mohammed was described as a devout Muslim, humble leader, and an inspiring figure who championed faith and devotion to Islam during his lifetime. Sulemana highlighted his unwavering commitment to worship, particularly during Ramadan and Umrah, and his encouragement for others to deepen their faith, as well as his melodious recitation of the Holy Qur'an and dedication to prayer.

The Chief Imam of the Tse Addo Central Mosque, Alhaji Zakaria Suleman, expressed gratitude to the Ministry and all contributors for the donation, noting that the mosque already possessed over 400 Qur'ans donated by the late minister, demonstrating his dedication to Islamic education. He urged Muslims to focus on righteous living, emphasizing that true legacy lies in the good deeds and services provided, rather than the number of years lived.
