Thailand School Shooting: Everything We Know

At least seven people, including the suspected shooter who took his own life, were killed when a student opened fire at a school in Thailand's Nonthaburi province on Friday, according to police. The shooting occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district, with teachers among the victims, Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong confirmed.

At least 15 others were injured during the incident. The identity and age of the gunman remain unknown, and authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack. It is believed the gun used was likely taken from a member of the shooter's family. Photos from the scene show parents comforting children outside the school, with students crying and armed police present.

The school, which had around 3,100 students and 147 teachers as of the 2025 academic year, has been the target of a deadly attack. The suspect had previously killed his two grandparents at their home before traveling to the school, Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwunchwee revealed. Emergency workers reported that the gunman was found seriously injured and shot himself in the right side of his head at the hospital, where he continued to breathe and required CPR.

Thailand has witnessed several deadly shootings in recent years, including a school attack in Bangkok in July 2025 that left five dead, and a market shooting in the same city earlier that year where a gunman killed six people before taking his own life. The country's deadliest mass shooting occurred in 2022 when a former police officer killed 36 people, including 22 children, during a three-hour gun-and-knife attack at a day care center.
