The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to worsen, with at least 19 internally displaced people becoming infected and five fatalities in Ituri province camps. Since May, there have been nearly 4,000 cases and over 1,800 deaths. Refugees and asylum-seekers have not been affected. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the virus is overwhelming response efforts, particularly in conflict zones where overcrowded camps, poor sanitation, and limited healthcare access heighten transmission risks.

The UN and its partners are enhancing surveillance, treatment, and community engagement efforts, while the WHO urges urgent scaling up of the response to curb the outbreak.
