Van de Ven close to agreeing new Spurs contract

Micky van de Ven, the 25-year-old Netherlands defender, is reportedly nearing an agreement on a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur. The defender, who joined the club from Wolfsburg in 2023 on a six-year deal, was reportedly deliberating his future at Tottenham before Roberto de Zerbi's appointment in March. De Zerbi's arrival, following a turbulent nine-month tenure under three different managers, appears to have been a pivotal factor in Van de Ven's decision to pursue a new contract.

According to Van de Ven, the new manager's arrival has instilled a sense of ambition and positivity at the club. "You can see the club has made some changes," Van de Ven told BBC Sport. "You can see the club has a new ambition. It's something that's really important for players who have been here for a long time." The defender also acknowledged that last season had been stressful, adding, "It's something we needed because everybody was a little bit down."

Despite Tottenham's relegation battles in the past two seasons, Van de Ven expressed optimism about the upcoming season under De Zerbi, stating, "It's going to be different compared to the manager we had last season. It's also going to be more enjoyable for people to watch because we'll be playing offensive football."
