Ukraine hits two oil refineries deep in Russian territory

Ukraine has struck two oil refineries located deep inside Russia with naval patrol boats, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes targeted the Bashneft-Novoil and Slavneft-Yanos refineries, aimed at reducing Russia's oil revenue used to finance its war efforts. Meanwhile, the Russian military claimed it targeted fuel, energy, and transport facilities, including two military patrol boats and shadow fleet vessels in the Black Sea.

Yaroslavl regional governor Mikhail Evraev reported that Slavneft-Yanos was engulfed in flames following a large enemy drone attack, resulting in four casualties. Over the night, 93 Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Yaroslavl region, with debris from the targeted facility hitting storage tanks, leading to an ongoing fire. At least 11 people were killed in Russian attacks, and Kherson reported a complete blackout.

Russia maintains that it is defending fuel, energy, and transport infrastructure amidst ongoing attacks on major cities, energy facilities, and warehouses. Both nations have intensified their offensive actions in recent weeks, with the front line remaining relatively static and mediation efforts proving unsuccessful.
