Allies should revisit intercepting Russian missiles over Ukraine, Polish FM says

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has suggested that his country and its allies should reconsider intercepting Russian missiles over Ukraine, according to Polish news agency PAP. This comes in the wake of a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crashing inside Poland. Sikorski's comments echo former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's opposition to supplying Ukraine with additional Patriot missiles.

The minister argued that policymakers must weigh the potential risks of shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine versus later over Polish territory. He emphasized that Russian ballistic missiles have been targeting Kyiv for several days, with no effective defense currently in place, leading to growing casualties. Sikorski also addressed remarks by Law and Justice (PiS) deputy party leader Przemysław Czarnek, who proposed expelling Russian diplomats as a response to the Kh-101 incident.

Czarnek referenced a parliamentary resolution from November 2025 advocating for measures to secure the area around the Ministry of National Defense and discussing the relocation of the Russian embassy in Warsaw. However, Sikorski clarified that the Sejm resolution does not override the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, stating that if PiS members wish to move the embassy, they should openly declare their intention to sever diplomatic relations with Russia. So far, no EU or NATO country has broken diplomatic ties with Russia.
