Super Falcons thrash Egypt 6-2 to reach WAFCON quarter-finals

Nigeria's Super Falcons secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt 6-2 in their Group C match. This victory came after the defending champions suffered a loss to Malawi and a narrow win over Zambia. The Super Falcons' attacking prowess shone through as they scored six goals against Egypt, who managed two goals in reply.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, and Gift Monday doubled Nigeria's lead in the 90th minute. Egypt responded with Nadine Ghazi's penalty in the 90+2nd minute, but Nigeria maintained control throughout the match. Uchenna Kanu and Christy Ucheibe each scored penalties, with Rasheedat Ajibade adding another in the 90+2nd minute to secure Nigeria's six-goal haul.

The victory marked a significant turnaround for Nigeria, who had previously lost to Malawi in their opening match. Nigeria will now face their quarter-final opponents in Morocco as they pursue their 11th WAFCON title.
