Stray Kids shifts from intense energy to 'chill' mood for new EP 'This & That'

SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- K-pop band Stray Kids announced Thursday that their upcoming new release, "This & That," will display a more relaxed and confident side of the group. Leader Bang Chan made this statement during a press conference to promote the new album. The band, in its ninth year, aims to introduce a fresh color to their music, as indicated by the title of the album.

Stray Kids released the 10th EP, "This & That," which comprises eight tracks, led by the hip-hop-based, groovy title track, "This & That," which emphasizes a chill and cool mood. All eight tracks were entirely produced by the group's in-house team, 3Racha, consisting of Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han. Changbin revealed that the track features unique sonic textures that the group has not utilized before, balanced by simple, repetitive lyrics around the phrase "this and that" to maintain accessibility.

The band members mentioned that they could revert to familiar music approaches, but they willingly embrace challenges during album creation, finding it more enjoyable. The group did not give a direct response when asked if they would submit work for the 2027 Grammy Awards, but they emphasized that their main focus is to ensure their fans' satisfaction.

Stray Kids is preparing to launch Straycity, a new multi-day global festival, in Latin America, starting next month, which will tour Bogota, Buenos Aires, and Mexico City. The band members expressed their eagerness to continue meeting fans worldwide, as part of their global fanbase, the "Stays." Lee Know, born in 1998, addressed the topic of mandatory military service, stating that he views it as a natural obligation and will fulfill it when called.

He added that even if he goes to the military, he wants to repay the love he has received and will likely gather again after his service.
