On 14 August 2026, the Physics of the Cosmos Community GR SIG Seminar will take place virtually. The seminar will feature Dr. Nicholas R. MacDonald from the University of Mississippi, who will present on gamma ray blazar jets and their behavior across the electromagnetic spectrum. The Ole Miss Blazar Group, within the Center for Multimessenger Astrophysics at UM, will discuss three student-led projects: GPU-enabled simulations of jet propagation, polarized radiative transfer calculations of jet synchrotron emission, and modeling blazar orphan gamma-ray flares.
The group is also collaborating with the Boston University Blazar Group to extend optical polarimetric monitoring of gamma-ray bright blazars using NASA's IXPE. Their work aims to bridge the gap between theory and observation of relativistic black hole jets in 3D, by leveraging the information carried in the synchrotron polarization of blazar jets.
