China denies sending arms to support Cambodia, Thai Army says

Bangkok, 6 August 2026 — The Chinese government has firmly denied reports of supplying weapons to support Cambodia's recent military actions, emphasizing its strong bond with Thailand and advocating for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing border dispute. This assertion was made during a meeting on 4 August between Lieutenant General Theeranan Nantakhwang, the Director-General of the Royal Thai Army's Information Department, and Major General Zhang Linhong, the People's Republic of China's Assistant Defence Attaché stationed in Thailand, along with his delegation.

According to the Thai Army, Zhang expressed apprehension regarding the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, stressing that these two nations have coexisted as neighbors for decades and should strive for a peaceful solution through diplomatic dialogue. Zhang reiterated Thailand's close relationship with China, highlighting Beijing's transparency and sincerity in its interactions with Bangkok.

The Chinese military representative explicitly stated that China was not involved in the provision of weapons for Cambodia's military operations, as per the Thai Army's account of the discussion.

Furthermore, China reiterated its commitment to its relationship with Thailand, instructing Cambodia that military equipment manufactured in China should not be utilized in regions along the Thai-Cambodian border.
