Judges dismiss 'excessive' jail sentence complaint from Cassius Turvey's killer

One of the men convicted of murdering 15-year-old Cassius Turvey has seen his appeal against his nine-year jail sentence dismissed by a panel of three judges. Cassius was chased down and beaten with a metal trolley pole in Perth's east in October 2022 before dying in hospital 10 days later. The trio of judges ruled that Mitchell Forth's argument that his sentence was "manifestly excessive" ignored his culpability in the incident.

Forth was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to nine years in prison, while the other two convicted killers received sentences of 18 and 22 years. Despite showing genuine remorse in a letter, Forth's sentence was deemed reasonable and unjust, as he played a role in the chase and celebration of the violent act. Cassius' mother, Mechelle, criticized the appeal process as a waste of time and resources that caused her and her family further pain.
