Bose's new mid-range headphones are cheaper than the first-gen model, despite better ANC, wired USB-C audio and a limited edition Shrek-y colorway

Bose has unveiled its second-generation QuietComfort headphones, offering a lower price than the previous model while introducing improved features. These new headphones, called the Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), were released three years after the original QuietComfort Headphones. Priced at £299, the second-gen headphones represent a significant discount compared to the first-gen model's $349 / £349.95 / AU$549.95 cost.

The new headphones hit store shelves on August 13, and the company will begin testing them to assess their performance in a competitive market. Despite their older appearance, the second-gen headphones share similar audio performance with their predecessors. The 40mm drivers and Bose Immersive Audio, featuring a Cinema Mode for improved dialogue and soundstage, are key highlights.

Additionally, the headphones now support USB-C wired audio and enhanced ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). Design-wise, the QCH(2G) boasts more comfortable cushions, ovular earcups, and smoother sliders, compared to the first-gen model. Moreover, Bose has released limited-edition Shrek-inspired colorways, including Rosewood Mauve, Eucalyptus Green (akin to Shrek's ears), and Dewdrop Mint.

While the black and white models remain popular choices, Shrek enthusiasts might find the new color options appealing.
