Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv kills one and injures others

Russia launched ballistic missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, resulting in one fatality and at least 12 injuries, according to authorities. The head of Kyiv's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, claimed the enemy is intensifying its attacks on the city, targeting residential buildings and warehouses. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko expressed concern that people may be trapped under debris following strikes in the city's center.

Russia has ramped up assaults on Kyiv in recent weeks, and Wednesday's assault lasted over an hour, as waves of ballistic missiles targeted the city and its outskirts. Tkachenko cautioned residents to heed air raid sirens and protect themselves and their families. One woman was reported killed, and 12 others sustained injuries in the attacks.

This latest round of strikes follows a surge in Ukraine's counterattacks against Russian civilian infrastructure, including power facilities and Wildberries warehouses, with casualties totaling five and 10 respectively in the Moscow region. On the preceding day, a drone attack on a busy beach in southern Krasnodar region claimed seven lives and injured 58.

Ukraine has expressed outrage over a video showing a man being pursued by a drone in Kherson, deeming it a calculated "hunt" and "safari" against civilians. Both parties have ruled out deliberate targeting of civilians. Ukraine has appealed to allies for more US-made Patriot missile interceptors to bolster defense against Russian ballistic attacks.
