PICTORIAL: Fire guts makeshift structures in Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has launched an investigation into a devastating fire that ravaged a cluster of makeshift residential buildings in the Abule Oja area of Yaba, Lagos. According to the agency, the incident occurred at 9/10 Abudu Street, adjacent to UNILAG Road, and although no casualties were reported, emergency responders were quick to deploy to the scene.

The response team consisted of officials from various fire services, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and personnel from LASEMA's Alpha Cobra Base. The fire, fueled by highly combustible materials, spread rapidly due to the proximity of the structures, but the combined efforts of the emergency responders successfully prevented the blaze from engulfing nearby buildings.

Remarkably, the adjoining two-storey building was saved, and no lives were lost. Following the firefighting operations, a comprehensive damage assessment is underway, and relevant agencies have been mobilized to provide relief materials and humanitarian assistance to affected residents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in collaboration with other pertinent authorities.
