Israeli military strikes southern Lebanon after evacuation warning to village

The Israeli military conducted strikes in southern Lebanon, responding to what they claimed were ceasefire violations by Hezbollah. The Israeli forces issued a forced displacement order, compelling residents of Mansouri village to vacate their homes and relocate at least 1,000 meters north to open areas. This marks the first wave of strikes and displacement orders in weeks, occurring as direct talks between Lebanon and Israel resumed in Rome.

Despite the ongoing diplomatic efforts, Israeli forces had already conducted widespread attacks on the Mansouri region throughout the day, underscoring the precarious situation in southern Lebanon, even with the Rome talks in progress.

Artillery shelling in the Zebqine Valley led to wildfires, while state media reported that the Israeli military set ablaze forests and fruit trees in the occupied village of Houla. The flames subsequently spread to the western neighborhoods of the town. The forced displacement orders serve as a stark reminder of the all-out war between Hezbollah and Israel earlier this year, which resulted in over a million people being forced to leave their homes.

Lebanon participated in the Rome talks seeking to demonstrate progress in "pilot zones," where Israel gradually withdraws its forces from occupied villages and towns, and the Lebanese army assumes control. Lebanon demands that Israel cease its extensive destruction and attacks in southern Lebanon. However, contrary to these demands, the Israeli military's actions on Wednesday, during the talks, suggest otherwise.

Beirut accuses Israel of repeated actions that hinder the implementation of the framework agreed upon in Washington on June 26. The pilot zone scheme includes three villages: Zawtar Al Gharbiyeh, Srifa, and Froun. While Srifa and Froun were not occupied by Israel during the latest conflict with Hezbollah, the Lebanese army faces the challenging task of verifying Hezbollah's disarmament in the areas it takes over.
