Israeli military strikes southern Lebanon after evacuation warning to village

On Wednesday, the Israeli military initiated targeted strikes in southern Lebanon in response to an alleged violation by Hezbollah, following a round of US-facilitated talks between Israel and Lebanon in Rome the previous day. According to the Lebanese health ministry, one individual was killed and twelve others were injured as a result of the Israeli strike on the southern town of Tibnin.

Prior to the strikes, the Israeli military had issued an evacuation warning to the village of Mansouri, situated approximately 25 kilometers from Tibnin. The warning was aimed at the residents of Mansouri and was the first such online notification from the Israeli military to Lebanon in over a month. The warning was communicated via flyers dropped in late June, instructing villagers to vacate the area due to Israel's addition of Mansouri to a self-declared buffer zone in southern Lebanon, as per a senior Lebanese military official.

Despite the Israeli forces operating in the vicinity, some Lebanese farmers persisted in accessing their fields and homes in the towns. Only a few weeks prior, on June 26, Lebanon and Israel reached a US-brokered security arrangement aimed at reducing tensions along the border. However, Israel maintained that it would retain a security zone in southern Lebanon to mitigate the risk posed by Hezbollah.
