Infantino vows to fight on as FIFA board offers support

Gianni Infantino has received the full backing of FIFA's management board, despite his failed attempt to sell stakes in a company to private investors for FIFA World Cup management. The plan was rejected by three continental confederations and subsequently withdrawn, prompting UEFA to threaten a boycott of FIFA competitions. At a crisis meeting in Morocco, Infantino's management board members expressed full support for the FIFA president.

The secretary general, Mattias Grafstrom, had previously criticized Infantino's proposal as "sad and reproachable." Following the summit, FIFA's top management affirmed confidence in the outcomes of the meeting, which aimed to strengthen governance, restore confidence, and prepare for future challenges. An apology letter was sent to member associations and the FIFA Council, along with a commitment to prevent similar errors.

FIFA will now review the situation, which will be presented to the Council. Despite the review, FIFA insists it followed the regulatory framework. The Council had been considering requesting an extraordinary meeting to hold Infantino accountable over the FFE and Folarin Balogun case, threatening a "governance boycott" if unable to achieve a majority or if Infantino refused the request.
