A new app teardown has shed light on how this feature will interact with Google Contacts. In essence, HiLight will synchronize with users' contacts to provide a more personalized notification experience. When a call or message arrives from a saved contact, the HiLight will pulse in the color associated with that contact, as defined in Google Contacts.

For example, if a user has a blue-colored contact named 'John Doe', the HiLight will emit a blue pulse when he makes a call or sends a message. This feature aims to provide a visually intuitive way to identify incoming calls or messages from familiar contacts, without the need to check the source. The exact color scheme has yet to be determined, but Google will likely allow users to customize their HiLight colors to match their preferences.
